I recently installed some glass flo pipes replacing the spray bar and intake pipe that came with the filter.

My observations, unproven and purely visually rather than tested, are that there seems to be a lot less movement in the water and also in circulation.

They do look great though.

What are your opinions?

Andy

Hi andy, which make did you purchase? i thought about them but having to buy two put me off because of the cost but i may add them later they look very good in pics i have seen (or should that be cant see  ) regards john

Andy,

Provided the new glass ware doesn`t add any flow restrictions additional to those of the original plastic pipe work, the mass flow rate from your filter discharge should remain the same.

The flow rate will be dependent on relative density of the fluid, which in both cases is constant because the fluid is water, velocity and area. With the spray bar you have a series of small holes (little area), so the velocity increases in an attempt to match the filter output. With the glass pipe, you have a large hole (large area), so the velocity decreases in an attempt to match the filter output. This is why you have less plants blowing around.

Glass looks way better IMO , it`s just a shame it is so delicate.

Dave.

John - I bought the inflow and outflow from Aquatic Magic on ebay. They are the upward sliced like Ada, whereas the Cal labs latest are downward sliced.

Dave - I get the little vortex at the front of the outflow and the top of the outflow is touching the water surface.

I wasn't really judging on the plants moving, more that when I put flakes in they used to go straight down and the tetras would all come out of the plants like a swarm and go for the food, now the food takes longer to drop and they don't seem to notice that its there!.

Also when the odd bit of whatever blows about the tank before being caught in the filter floss it seems to slowly swirl around the tank rather than blast around.

I agree they look much much better than the plastic spraybar and inflow that gets 'algaefied' very quickly.

I don't think they're that fragile! Like the diffusor, bubble counter and NRV which I bought from Aquatic Magic too, I was wrestling with the suckers trying to get them on. lol and I have spotted my 2 year old before clanking the bubble counter against the tank glass (for which he got a slapped bum of course)

Oh well, I'll keep an eye on my drop checker to make sure that it doesn't go blue over time.

Andy
