Ok im having a problem with one of my tanks and the red flame tetras.
They seam to be not to well. the problem is they are having problems swimming.

they are having problems with keeping upright as they swim streight, then they end up on their side. they dont look sick and they are eating ok.

At the moment they are having medication for white spot and vitimin B treatment with medicated food as well.

but they still seam to be going down hill.

I think it has some thing to do with the medicine.

Has anyone see this before and if so what was the cause and cure.

All water conditions are normal.

It kind of sounds like a swim bladder problem, In tetras I think its fatal or at least in neons, It usually comes from over feeding but if its not swim bladder it may be something that has to do with the medicine but it really does sound like swim bladder.

ok im not feeding them mutch. I have had the fish for around a year now, but i have recently changed their diet.

this could be it

It could be swim bladder, but also swimming laying to one side can be parasites.
Have you increased aeration with the med.

yea ive added a pipe to the power head. and the fish swim like they are acrobatic aircarft. so i think it must be the new diet... mmm

ok back to the old flakes.

Problem is the tetras were ment to be fed twice a day and all the others one day. Ok i will have to feed the fish less per day and the old feed.

will the fish go into a hunger shock if i dont feed them for a few days. just so they can work off any fat they have gotten during the new feed.

I thought the angels were growing really fash and some of the corys looked a bit like pot belly pigs

they should be fine for you to not feed them for a few days, I'd start feeding them again at 3 or 4 days. If they did get a lot of fat from the new diet you might could even not feed them for longer but I'd start feeding around the 3rd or 4th day.

Cool that is my plan

Its not breeding behaviour is it? I know you say youve had them a year but they do swim sideways when they are posing at each other.

Just a thought.

thanks for the thought but i think it is swim bladder as they are starting to die. unless the Flam tetras are like praying mantis. breed then eat the males :) wow that would be weird...

Serious .. i think since i ave started to give the fish the beter quality of food they have goten fater. and i have put some new plants in the tank so they may be suplimenting the diet with eating what is growing on the plants.

Wow i didnt realise there was so much of a differance with flake food. I still two times a week give them a mixture of live food and greens. so i cant see it being constipation
