sorry for the subject, but just wondering if fish poop really should get to about an inch hanging off the fish bum before it snaps off
i quite often see my female platty swimming round with a line of poop training behind
i have never seen my betta poop
and the male platty seems able to get it to drop off quite easy

i am sure examining poop like that is a guy thing - but hey !

Don't worry, I don't know if it is a livebearer thing, but my mollys, swordys and platties all have the same problem, they are all fine and not bothered by it...the others try to munch on it (hmmmm tasty! :p)

 So true - we have named one of our platies Thomas Crapper as a testament to his amazing pooping skills!!!

u 2 are definalty english like me using words like munch hehe viva britania!

he he he!

oh rah daaarling, I was just having a spot of afternoon tea with Liz (you may know her at the Queen?) and we were just biting into the last of the cucumber sandwiches when we realised that yes, by golly, we were absolutely English and continued to munch on our lunch....! ;) :p

Whats wrong with the word munch anyway, is one of my favourite words...munch and brunch...or brea (pronounced bree) which is the meal that you have on a lazy saturday about 4pm, when you realise that you have missed breakfast lunch and now it's tea time..!! :S

Thomas Crapper
he he he!  nice name platy...LIKE IT!! ;) :)

I think mine have a longest poop competition!

Try feding some live foods like daphnia or brineshrimp at least twice a week, it helps clean out the fishes intestines and should prevent the "stringy poo" effect.

None of my fish ever have "stringy poos" and im sure this is down to the fact that i do not use flake and wafer type foods for them as i only feed live and frozen prepared foods.

Cooked, shelled frozen peas are good for shifting the poop too. I think its a mild form of constipation.

That is what's on the menu for my fish tonight :p - I will study their poop avidly and let you know if it helps!

Woohoo I'm in for a fun night...

he he...great thanks people! :D

whenever I have tried feeding them different live foods it just made the poop different colours, but will try that frozen peas thing later....do you grind it up a lot, of just chop them small or what?

geeza, I normally just pour boiling water over the peas, leave them for a few mins, then push them out of their skins. You can put them in whole but if you break them up a bit then it's easier for the fish to get nice bite sized chunks off IME.
