Fishless Cycling - Irritating

Hi there,

i'm getting really irritated, i keep checking the nitrite twice a day and the thing still hasn't nudged

My cycling started on Aug 22nd, and my ammonia dropped to zero on 01 September.

Any idea how much longer i have to wait, i just want to add my fish

Expect an average cycle to take 6 - 8 weeks.

If you're lucky faster than than. If you seeded your filter first, expect about 2-4 weeks or less.

Just keep going, things are heppening - I would only test every other day or so, but I know it is a frustrating process.

If you bought the filter bnew you could run it at a friend's mature tank for a week before fishless cycling on yours. It's an alternative to "seeding" with someone else's media.

Adding some of the "gunk" from a mature filter to the new one... transfers a huge colony of good bacteria in one shot !!!!!

Could still be weeks away without a "seed" where in Nottm are you ? , perhaps I could oblige...

Well i originally got it started by adding a biorb filter, but then once it started processing ammonia i removed it thinking it was no longer needed, do'h! Not sure to its effect though as it still took 9 days for the ammonia to completely dissapear, perhaps it wasn't mature enough (was in biorb 8 weeks ish)?! I also added mature gravel from my LFS when i first started, although there was about a 24 hour wait between adding that and adding the first load of ammonia.
