Enthusiastic "Re-Beginner"
From what I've heard (never had them myself, so I don't have direct experience) they are good food for small fish and are harmless in ways other than looking bad when there are a lot of them. I think the ones left after the big water change (nothing says you can't do more than one water change) would be quickly eaten by your new fish.
