Fishless Cycle Log

Well, the only thing is that pretty often the nitrites like to get stubborn with that last little bit of getting truly to zero by 12 hours. You would have a much more stable situation if you could make yourself wait for that. Otherwise you could still end up do a fair amount of water changing and feeling frustrated with yourself for not having waited.

What if I also move over my filter that's been working on my 25-gallon for a year with them?

Anytime you move a fish load with the filter that's been handling them, you're safe. All you have to do in that case is keep measuring carefully and react with the proper water changes if necessary. Since you are pretty close to the new filter begin cycled, you won't need anywhere near a month of overlap with the filters, probably 2 weeks would be safe.

Cool, thanks. Tomorrow, they move. I didn't realise you could step up a filter to a larger volume and still process the waste it was already handling. Useful to know, thank you :)

If you have a cycled filter on an older tank and are moving all of the fish, just move the filter over with the fish and your cycle is done. You would need to do a huge water change to remove any remaining ammonia or nitrites first.

I presume that only applies if there is any remaining ammonia or nitrites? If my test kit (API master) shows 0 for each, it's ok to put them straight in, surely?

Thanks again everyone, this forums is so helpful :good:

Fish in!

All you can see there is one of the large cories at the front with two buddies with him (and one of the smaller ones rebelling on his own over to the left :p). There are now 6 cories in total, along with two gouramis, my redtail black shark, black molly and my red swordtail. My otocinclus ('otto') didn't make it :-( RIP little fella :-( He'd have wanted me to get a load more to remember him by, wouldn't he? :/

I plan to leave them to settle in properly this week while I'm away, and then stock fully next week! :)

It'll be getting a whole world more plants after I get back too, plantsalive order on hold until I get back :good:

Feel terrible about otto though, poor little guy.
