Good luck Chris! I was just checking your log to compare it with my current cycle log, and I am happy to be lucky to see ammonia in my tank drop to zero in just few days. Nitrite in my tank has taken forever to disappear in the past. They say it takes twice as long for nitrite processing bacteria to colonize.

The point being, it will happen eventually. Just be patient.

It looks quite good I'm thinking as your nitrites are staying at 0, and as you're testing every 24hours? they must be being processed correctly. Off to search for when its necessary to bump back up to 4/5ppm of ammonia, as I got my first 24hr nitrite drop from 5ppm > 0ppm :)

edit: thanks to OM47's post here :)

The biggest problem that I can see with topping up ammonia at 12 hours is how high it will drive the nitrites. Since the nitrites are not processing yet, the more ammonia you put in the higher the nitrites will become. We often recommend cutting back the ammonia to only adding to 2 ppm during the nitrite spike to give the nitrite bacteria a chance to catch up. Once nitrites start processing well, we bring the ammonia additions back to the 5 ppm level.

If nitrites are being kept at 0ppm in your case every 24hours, does anyone know if now is teh time to start dosing ammonia back up to 4/5ppm per 24hours? Sorry to jump-in on your thread!

No need to apologise  yes ive been testing every 24 hours.. still waiting for my first drop to 0 on the ammonia :( cant wait haha!

ohhhh, my bad, for some reason I thought you were dosing with 2ppm of ammonia, and thus that post was completely irrelevant for now, i think i've gone cycling mad! hopefully wont be too long before your ammonia drops down, it feels liek a huge milestone when it does! i got really paranoid when I had hardly any nitrites, but dont worry they follow very shortly after the first complete ammonia drop :)

Looking back at Tropical_Chris's numbers, they look pretty static. I hope when he gets back he will report some movement!

:D DUDE!!! I'm back and have started cycling my little 4 gallon tank, should have really done my 22 gallon one first but its not ready yet, and i know cycling in smaller tanks is a little more harder but, i was getting bored of waiting, when my 4 gallon one is sitting there ready and waiting for some cycling action lol.

Will start cycling the other tank when i get some slate and rocks siliconed...oh and when i get another heater, cause i put it in the 4G lol

Keep up the good work man stay cool B-)

Sorry about my failure to update the last few days but had a family emergency and was away from home.. updated results.

Day 21 updated.. 3 weeks in now and no complete drop in ammonia to 0 yet :( is this normal or do i need to do something to help it along?
