Fishless Cycle - Add & Wait Method

The algae thats currently present in my tank - removing today its a pain (unsightly) thinking of gravel vaccuming would this cause a disturbance in my cycle?
No, you will be fine but remember to dose your h/h ammonia back up in a gradule manner to the desired level(4/5ppm). The fresh water you put back in remember to dechlorinate and roughly match the temp of the water in your tank.

Keith.

P.S Keep an eye on the measured ammounts of h/h ammonia your putting in so that next time you can apply it in one ammount :good:

Thanks - never got round to removing algae or vaccuimg - just dodnt feel well enough to mess around with tank (I'm off work, ill) so for the time being i only got round to testing ammonia levels. Thinking of investing in some seachem prime (spelling?) previously used Tetra: Aquasafe and it left a film on my surface of water.

This is the filter carbon I use (which says to replace every 2 or so weeks)

Filter Carbon Plus Ceramic Cartridge

I'm clutching at straws but was wondering if this was a reason why my cycle seems to be 'stalling'??

Not many people use this type of external filter and/or cartridges?

Check your ph level, my ph is 6.4 which is horbbile i added some seachem calcium (as i keep appple snails) this boosted my ph to 8.2 - 8.6 and have today finished my cycle. The 2nd phase is the killer the ammonia drop wait is not so bad lol

Sorry Nemo, totally mis-understood your posted link, Why they are suggesting to replace every two weeks is because carbon has a short lifespan. Next time you purchase media try and get some coarse sponge and see if they do a ceramic cartridge with no carbon. The Media you are using imo will not effect your cycle.

Keith.

How are things going Nemo :good:

Keith.

The other half ended up Vacuming my tank, buying me a new filter, getting rid of the media I had in there and starting me afresh.
He thought a new filter would be better, something that was similar to my brothers and not a mini external cartridge one, which would be ideal for a goldfish.
It's so much better - alot more rippling surface water and looks far easier to understand :]
Only problem is I can't get hold of any mature media now as my brothers tank has had White spot and now has finrot.
