Ammonia is a bit high, so will initially take an extra few days to come down compared to 5ppm. Was that with the 1.87ml? I would try 1ml next time and see how that goes...

02/02/11 Added 1.84ml of Ammonia @ 10.12pm

Ammonia 8.0 PPM
Nitrite 0 PPM
Nitrate 0 PPM
I'm afraid your ammonia level is a little to high, you will need to perform a water change(40-45%)to get it around the 5ppm mark. 8ppm ammonia will encourage unwanted bacterias.

When you calculate your tank capacity don't forget to take account of water displaced by your substrate(gravel/sand), rocks, and ornaments.

Keep us posted, Keith.

Would my dying plant be causing the ammonia level to be too high aswell?
Yes it will if its starting to decompose, i would be inclined to remove it.
How are your ammonia levels today?

Keith.
