Hi, I am new to this site although I have owned fishes for a long time.

I used to have a turtle and 4 zebra danios plus two feeder goldfish in a 55 gallon tank. I also have a 30 gallon fish tank with only 6 goldfishes. Now I no longer have the turtle and I want to transfer the 6 fishes that were in the turtle tank to the fish tank.
My questions are:

Will it be safe to move the fishes that were with the turtle to the other tank?
Will there be too many fishes for the 30 gallon tank?

Filtration is no problem because I will use the fluval 405 in the 30g tank. But I wonder about space. The zebra danios are very small though, maybe 1/2 an inch. The goldfish are big more than an inch each.

Juvenile goldfish should have 15g each so your 30g is already way overstocked.

You could get away with 3 goldfish in the 55g but no more and possibly 2 goldfish in the 30g temporarily but again nothing else.

Goldfish grow anything up to 12" and can live for 15+ years, they have a huge bioload hence the large water volume per fish even when juvenile. Apart from 'fancy' goldfish, they should not be kept in aquariums as they are pond fish.

My suggestion would be to rehome all the goldfish (preferably into ponds where they belong) and build up your fish stock from there.

Now this is more complicated than I thought. Is this way there is always a point when the goldfish die?

What fishes you recommend? Can I keep the zebra danios?

Goldfish usually die after a few years due to cramped conditions, poor water quality and associated deformities/disorders. The unfortunate thing is, because they are exceptionally hardy fish, they can tolerate poor conditions until finally a deformity or disorder kills then rather than the conditions.

The zebras will be fine but until you know what tank you're planning on doing what with its hard to offer advice on stocking. If the goldfish are going to be rehomed then you have a 30g and a 55g to plan with.
