Fishes Dying! Please Help!

yes, you can pull them out using tweezers/pluckers. they are actually anchorworm eggs layed by the female(s).

the brand of aquarium salt i use is called "doc wellfish's aquarium salt." it should be sold at most pet stores. and wilder's right, you should probably add the salt once the medications are done.

hope your fish get well and i'm sorry to hear about your tetra dying!

HI,

The situation is very serious looking now.

Black moor - it's got TONS of these worms things jutting out of the skin and has lost all its colour, shrink in size and is at the bottom of the tank all day.

Gold fish - This also has TONS of these worms aouund the body. i tried pulling out a few but its tough to get all out. they keep growing.

Both look misrable...White tetra died samw way after getting all these worms on its body.

IMPORTANT - i am traveling out for two days. Can i put one of the plants inthe tank for food substitute?

I dont think these will live for long at this rate...:((((((((((((

please advice any step to just reduce the torture they going through.

Thought the med would be killing them off by now, how long have you been using it, sorry bless them they sound bad, the longer there on the fish the survival of them goes down hill faster because of the bacterial infection.
Most parasites have nasty bacteria in there sucker and the pierce the skin of the fish causing the bacteria to go into the blood stream of the fish.

Hi,

Nope, i stopped the med a while back as i did not want to over do it and also did not see any change with the med.
i have pulled out most of the worms thingies from the gold fish, hope this makes some difference. [how can these be eggs?]

Is there a way of getting them back on track? or is this only going to get verse?

They seem totally out of energy and grasping for air with whatever left in their lungs. its sure a hard sight after having seen them in full form/full life.

Can i put plants in the tank while i am OUT OF TOWN? will they eat too much and die?

Adding plants is fine. It will make water quality a little better and provide food for them.
Sorry to see they are so bad. :(

I think they will have a better chance if you start using the med again. Just read the directions carfully and make sure you put in the correct dosage.

yes they are terrible...just hope i can reduce any pain they going through...for however long i can.

i guess i will have to do a water change before i leave and also get some plants to take care of the food part.
hope i get to see them alive and better when im back.

will keep you ppl updated...

I agree i would read the instructions on the med to see if you can use it again, good luck.

I resorted to picking fish lice off my fish. Just be patient, and try the medication again, and finish the course. The parasites can return if you don't.

hey guys,

alas! my goldie died this morning. i sat and picked out as many anchor worms as i could last night. thought that would help, but no:(

i have two left now. one goldie and one black moor. I have shifted them to a fish bowl together and treated them with slight 'rock salt' as suggested here on this site. [put them in rock salt water for 2 mins and put them back into regular new water...is this the way?]

Please tell me how to treat with 'rock salt'.

only porb is i will be away for couple of days. so hope i see them alive when im back.

anyways...thanks

hey...i think the salt thing works...but the infection is way out of hand to treat i think.
The black moor died this morning while i was pulling out the anchor worms...guess it was on its way out.

Left is the goldie now.

one QS - Is the rock salt used for a cure of can it be mixed with the regular fish water? what i mean is, can the fish remain in the salt water for long? or is it only for few mins [treatment].

Thanks
Avanti
