Well this evening when I was just casually observing my 75 gallon I noticed something odd. The more and more I looked, I noticed I was missing a fish. All danios were accounted for, guppies looked fine (no frayed or bitten tails), all of my buenos aires tetras were present, and even my featherfin catfish poked his head out, but I am short one Tiger Barb (6 instead of 7). I looked and looked and he is certainly gone. Searched the floor...nothing. Called the wife and son in and they proceeded to post at each end of the tank while I watched the front for about 10 minutes. Nothing. I got out the turkey baster and started blasting water in the caves and crevices of rock to see if a dead fish came floating out. Nothing. After 30 minutes of searching I've called it off.
Is it possible that he died suddenly, and that all of my other fish devoured him completely not leaving a trace? I can't imagine where he could have possibly ended up. I'm debating on whether to go the lfs and get 4 more, bringing the total number to 10, or just leaving it as it is. I am always afraid to buy new fish for some reason, even 4 years into the hobby and my tank being cycled for so long.
