Fish Trapped

Turn tanks lights out and he might swim back out.

LOL yes the best suggestion yet Wilder, love ya!

Still, if he doesn't come out I won't sleep a wink, everytime I go to prize him out he swims away from me, I've even got a straw out so I can suck him out, but he keeps swimming away from me, perhaps I should just let him try for himself for now, wait a couple of hours and just see BUT he has been in there about 5hrs

He will come out when he fed up. Hopefully.
Just stressing him out so he moving further up where you can't get him.

You know, whilst I was just writing back to you, he's moved up the tank because he's not up the end I was trying to get him out, so perhaps he will figure it out
Lights are off now and I added a bit more water because the gap he got through was right at the top left corner where there hardly any water (think he must have curled himself round) and so with a high water level he might just swim right out

Still not sure how the heck I'll stop it happening again. Is underwater silicone readily available at LFS and is it safe just to blob into the gaps whilst all the fish are in it?

Never used back grounds so don't know much about them.

Some other members might be able to advise you on the silicone and how to do it.

If it's at the top left corner then IF you don't have to completely remove it to get him out, can't you just drop the water level a decent amount(around 30% of water)? And then silicone it as normal, allow it to set and then top up.

I suppose he still behind the background.

Thanks hun but I would rather go to my LFS's first thing and get things moving sooner rather than later

Ive never seen an LFS stock silicone at all, let alone one which can be applied underwater.

You may be lucky though, although i still wouldnt advise applying it underwater unless you have no other choice.

Edit: Any chance of a picture?

I wanted to do a complete bead up the whole left side, don't want to take anymore chances!

I think he's still behind there, but I've darkened the tank and the room and left the room. It seems my shining on a torch on the right hand side to get him out made him think I was playing a game - you know what bettas are like, they are like humans! They just know how to get you at it!

I can do pics later Geoff, just want to give him a chance to be alone and do his thing for a while. But if I get desperate I will definitely be taking pics. My LFS stock regular silicone so hopefully will be ok. He won't starve back there, so if I can't get any tomorrow I will mail order some for Thursday.

Just a warning, unless it says it can be applied underwater it just wont adhere...

Yep :good:
Even if I have to use a 70 litre bin to drop half the water down then seal up the edges at the top and refill it, then so be it, that's what I'll do

At least he isn't trapped as in can't move. I believe he can get out. He got in, he just has to work it out to swim back to the other end. Might shine a torch on it later, he seems to be attracted to the torch lol.

erm id get him out asap, dont bettas need to get to the surface to breathe?????????????

Yes he can get to the surface :good: it's quite spacious behind the background because it's all bumpy and lumpy but I didn't intend for him to squeeze around the back I thought the little space was FAR too small for anything to get behind, I've had lots of different 3D backgrounds before, this is a freak incident basically

ah right sorry i had visions of him being stuck flat against the glass!
