Fish Tank Trouble

Hi people =o)
My tank is in some serious trouble so I'll give you all the info and then ask the question...

50cm (20in) long
25cm (10in) tall
25cm (10in) wide

Contains:
Gravel
A filter
Light
Heater (24oC)
Skull ornament
Seahorse ornament
Bogwood with anubius

The thing is the fish I have are in terrible numbers and I think that I can have more fish. The fish I have are a bronze corydoras, a neon tetra and 3 glowlight tetras. If I can, what other fish do I need to add for my others to be happy and my tank to be correctly stocked and peaceful. Thanks a million for any help,

Hi yeah your numbers are a bit off. Best thing I would do is take back your neon tetra and get 3 more glowlights and 4 more bronze cories. Then you have the option of adding in a feature fish like a trio of sparlking gourami or a lone honey gourami.

How many liters does the tank hold?

And from what I hear you need Neon Terta in groups of 5+ for them to be happy.

I've had my fish for a while, and not only have I bought my fish from six seperate shops in the past but I can't remember which shop I bought each one from, one's closed down, and I doubt they take back fish anyways. Any other ideas,

My tank holds aprox:
8.25 US gallons
6.87 UK gallons
31.25 liters

Hi Joe97

Your tank's small but it can still be nicely stocked. I would suggest that you add another C. aeneus (bronze cory) for starters. Then watch your water stats for a couple of weeks. If the nitrAte level stays in the low range, try adding more glowlights or neons, even one at a time. As long as it doesn't rise above about 40 ppm, it should be OK with weekly water changes and tank cleanings. If it goes higher, you are then taking a chance with overstocking.

If my strip test doesn't do nitrate what should I get my mother to type into eBay to find it? Nitrate test kit I imagine, thanks alot, Joe. =oD

Strip tests aren't the most accurate really I'm afraid.
What you need is a liquid test kit which will give you more accurate readings

I like the API test kits. They come with test tubes that you fill to a line with tank water, add drops, and then, depending on the directions and which test you are doing, compare the results to a card with color charts.

The API test kits are available in the UK also, just search for a suitable supplier and take a trip to your LFS, they should hopefully have them. If I were you I'd shop around online for them, you should be able to get an API freshwater master test kit for around £20 or so, but don't pay much more than that...for example my local pets@home has them for over £30!!!


Best just to search in google for "API master test kit freshwater" and make sure it's a UK company so shipping wont be high e.g. http/www.google.co...tart=56&gnum=14
