So my fish tank leaked around 20 Litres of water the other day, not sure if it was from the external filter or what, but it seemed to have stopped without me doing anything. Has this happened to anyone? I am just so baffled, I can't fix the problem because I don't know what the problem is...

Ahhhhhhh, help!

Did you top the tank back up? And did it stop even after topping it up?

The leak could be along one.of the corners, if the water level reached below the leak that would explain why it stopped leaking

Sounds like my worst nightmare!!!

Firstly, get your electrics safe!!! This is by far the biggest risk.

Check the tank for any obvious signs of cracks, remove your filter system and then gradually top it up again. Watch for droplets of water on the corners and around the base. Try running your filter from a bucket in the garden and watch for leaks around the seals etc.

Also remember if your stand is made from an artificial wood board it may be sucking up the water and loosing integrity so the dryer you can keep it the better.

It could be a number of things causing your leak - you need to do some investigation work before you take any more action. Might be worth getting a back-up tank cycling some water from your main tank in case you need to remove fish to fix the problem.

Good luck! Let us know what you find
