Fish Tank Buying Advice

Hi all,


I currently have a Juwel Rio 180 (180 ltr) tank, I am looking to upgrade to a new tank ideally 340L +. Budget wise i'm looking to spend around £450 to include a cabinet as minimum. I am planning on getting an external filter so this cost is seperate to the above budget. I have looked around on Ebay and there are some nice looking tanks for this price, also went to a place called Shirley aquatics where they had some nice tanks and on offer, the makes varied but there biggest range was a brand called Cleair. Anyways some suggestions on what/where I can get a tank as described above within my budget would be of great help. Thanks.

Hopefully I should know in the next 5 weeks or so if I have the funds to get a new tank. As said price wise looking at around £400 for the tank and cabinet. Have seen some nice ones on the net via aquarists classified and Ebay, saw a nice Rena 410 ltr starting at £150 on Ebay stated in good condition are these tanks any good? Was looking at a tetratec ex1200 filter for this, would this be adequate for this size tank? I am looking ideally for a tank upwards of 350 ltrs, and would also like some ideas as to extra fish to add to the new tank for this size upwards, current stock in my 180 ltr tank is: 2 golden barbs, 5 neon tetra, 2 sunset platys, 2 cherry barbs, 2 sucker loaches, 2 corydora, 5 danios and 2 blue rams.

Rena are a very good tank make, although unfortunatley they are no longer making them, but spares should be easy enough to come by.

A tetratec ex1200 wont be enough to filter a 350L tank, but two would. If you only want one filter, your looking at something along the lines of a fluval fx5, eheim 2080, more expensive but capable one their own.

But they state that they are for tanks upto 1500 ltrs? I take it your working on a filter rate of about 4-5?, an fx5 would be cheaper (£155) than buying two ex1200's, cheaper to run as well I imagine. Would an fx5 be ok for the rena 410 ltr tank as well?

tht is a great budget! i would definitley go second hand for the tank etc.. seem to get so much more for your money, it`s very likely that you`d get a more than decen filter-- FX5 /2x TT1200 included on a sale of a tank that size.. even if not with the savings you`ll make by getting preowned you`ll easily afford on within your budget

Fluval FX5 are fantastic! Even second hand you cant beat them they are around £100 secondhand sometimes cheaper, and if you need new media its about £40 or so but well worth it IMO best filter Ive ever had and the thing is just built so well its fantastic piece of mind.

In order to mature a new tank, could I get the fx5 and run it alongside my current internal juwel filter on current tank, for say a month or so, then put it into a new tank without having to start again?

Was looking for different varities, rather than the same as what I already have. Not sure what loaches they are, so have attached a pic in case you have any ideas..?
