We have a fish tank at work and I noticed the other day there are around 40+ platys in it. The tank is half the size of my own tank at home so Im guessing its around 60 litre, I could get the measurements to check. When I counted the fish I counted 40 and upwards, maybe even 50-60, they are all platys, ALOT of babies too, probably some hiding that i didnt see. Anyone tell me roughly how many should be in a tank like that? I will ask them to try and rehome some if necessary....
There is also one lone 'see through' type fish which is about 2 inches long, not sure what this is.

I'm looking at my 2ft 60L tank and wondering how on earth i'd begin to get 40+ platy's in their, yet alone 50-60 maybe. Yes, i'd say its over stocked.

The see through fish could be a glass catfish, they get to about 2", but know one would know without seeing a picture really.

It's definitely overstocked. There should be about five in there, not 50.

Could the see through fish be a glass catfish?

Cross post :) Great minds et al :good:

On average 12" of fish would be a generally accepted stocking, maybe a few more inches worth at a push with good maintenance

Female platys are often much bigger than males but for arguments sake if we say on average they are 1.5" (not including tail) a suggested stocking would be around 8-10 platys
