I have just found a tiger barb dead but it is stuck right behind my internal filter.

Dont know how he got there.

Has this happened to anybody before? How do I prevent this happening in the future?

Tank is a Rio 125l

When I used to have a fluval internal, my Danios used to love doing that. I caught them everytime bar one :(. After that, I stuffed the gap with filter floss to plug the hole and bought an external. Sorry for your loss.

I've had a fish die at the bottom of my rio internal between the case and glass, is that where it is?

I kind of suctioned it out by wafting a net forward and backwards near it. Tricky one!

I remember when I first got my guppies. Acclimatised them, added to tank, lovely. Went downstairs for dinner and came back up to not one, not two, but three guppies stuck behind my thermometer.

no the fish was stuck between the glass and filter on the sucker side

Oof, how did it get all the way up there?

Can you slide a ruler or something down in between the two and kind of slide it out?

I lost a platy this week, she was stuck between the glass & the filter.
She always used to swim behind it no problem, but she was heavily pregnant & I think she misjudged how big her belly was

My paradise fish use get stuck behind the filter form time to time but the stupid thing seemed to enjoy it- never paniced at least and did it againt he next day I can imagine him getting stuck and just deciding the only think to do it sleep  . Meanwhile one of my barbs got stuck and completly freaked out and damaged himself as I was freeing him. The Paradise fish may have been behind the filter all day but the barb couldn't have been behind the heater for more than 10 minutes. Luckily none of mine have died from it.

I cut a new sponge in half after giving it a good wash to be sure and just shoved it behind the filter to fill the gap after about 2 months I removed it and forgot to put it back in but the fish seem to think it's impossible to get behind there now anyway (they have gotten a fair bit bigger) It's pretty much just a case of fill the gap how you can

Tried and failed to get it out

Let's hope it is a one off

Well you can't leave it there to rot so I hope you come up with something, else you might have to cut the silicone and move the filter.
