Fish Sleeping?

Dolphins sleep like that I believe. One side of the brain is able able to rest at a time. This way they can still remain afloat at the surface and get air. However they only sleep in short 2-3 minuet stretches. Sharks are able to swim unconsciously, since they to need a period of rest, but at the same time they need to move forward so water moves over their gills.

Wahay the search function works..i was just checking to make sure i wasnt stressing my fish out by having my living room lights on late into the night..i can see all my fish in the tank and theyre all pale and resting on the bottom of the sand (livebearers and rummynoses) my harlequins are midwater

I use to get very worried when my fish were all down the bottom when i use to check them in the mornings, now i think the same thing they must be resting
All my fishes go down close to the gravel during the night when all the lights go out, when i open the curtains in the mornings i leave them for 10 mins or so now to arise, and then they all awaken and near the top waiting for their food when i check them

ive seen clown loaches sleep, eyes closed, on its back stuck in a tunnel. i was like " OMG! my clown loach is dead " went to take it out of the tank and it started swimming. that was a year ago, still have the same one.

My fish (in my signature) sleep most of the day from around 10am-2pm. At night, my fish zoom and jump all over my tank. My African Butterfly Fish rarely ever moves during day and patrols his turf in the night!
