That's most definatly a very interesting article. I feel sorry for the poor fishies, but I am glad that we are also finding ways to help out people that are injured. I've got mixed feelings...

Yes, I feel a bit worried about the fishies too..... but at least they're farmed for food, and not caught wild.

It's a VERY good breakthrough in medicine though! Especially with all these wars going on at the moment... :(

I only support one kind of animal testing, and thats using it to find much needed cures for life threatening injurys/deseases for people. I am strongly against animale testing for stupid things like makeup or cleaning chemicals etc.
I think this is a great discovery, but in the end we have discovered medicines that help fish get over life-threatening illnesses so i think its fair fish help us out with our own serious health problems; so i don't have a problem with this basically  .
The only scenario in this which i'd object too is if somone who has deliberatly treated fish badly uses any meds that have been created with the help of fish.

Hi All

As a now retired staff nurse I welcome the research if it saves life (I also agree with Tokis Phoenix about testing cosmetics), as an ex squaddie I also welcome the research. I would be interested to hear if it changes the fish`s food value though - if it does`nt I can see it being a possible introduction over the whole species.

BUT I think we do need to be careful and see the effects on the fish over all - when we start messing about with genetic make - up who knows what changes we produce - it needs testing and the results checking carefully.

For history lovers (and I do not condone what was done) the medical profession learnt a lot of useful information from the Nazi concentration camps and experiments on the prisoners, in relation to genetics and messing about with them.

Various fish have provided various ailments and treatments for humans for many many years.

New laws and regulations are passed constantly to provide the least destress to the animal and to limit the research being done. Including DNA manipulation techniques. When scientists want to conduct a new experiment, all aspects of the experiment are traweled through rigorous and tough quidelines and scrutiny.

Its not as easy and its not as free will as most people think it is. :)
