Fish Room

well since this includes both salt and fresh idk where to put it

but here are the tanks that i will definatley have

200+ gallon salt, reef
100 gallon fresh, planted

now the rest... are undecided lol i was thinking breeding but then again i could make some interesting fits

1 55 gallon
3+ 20 gallons
1 5 gallon
2+ 10 gallons
MAYBE another 100 gallon


heres my thinking on the tanks, but if someone comes up with an idea i love ill change it around
55 goes another freshy planted
one of the 20s a coral prop tank and 2 for whatever i can get to mate lol, any left overs would be salt nanos
the 5 gallon a planted shrimp tank
10 gallons would be breeders
the 100 optional would be a salt tank to balance the 2 sides



what are your guys opinions?

I don't like these types of fish room. Don't like it at all. All your choices assume that we want to have this kind of thing.

IMO a fish tank is something you can sit and watch. It's peaceful, relaxing. So a tank should be placed according to where you will see if doing everyday stuff. My tank is next to where I sit at the kitchen table. If we got another big tank it would prob go in the living room. Another small tank would prob go in the bedroom.

I think on a practical level, a fishroom makes sense. One room for all the tanks where they could possible share sumps (and so tank volume) one room with all the required equipment.

But as somewhere to go and watch fish, they usually fail.

Now I am thinking about a fishroom. But one more like T1Karmanns. One massive tank, a nice sofa, speakersnext to tank for music etc, projector screen which drops down in front of the tank... A space I will actually use, where I will actually get to watch my fish...

mine got a bit of a chore as i was ill at the time
my missus used to look after it more than me and she
had better look she got just about everything breeding
from angels to siamese fighters so no i dont think i would like to go
down that route again just have a couple of display tanks it a lot easier
to look after than 18 tanks like what i had in the fish room mind you
i did used to go and work on my computer in the fish room and do office work
in there the noise was sort of clamming in a way i do miss my fish like
your set up sounds good like stick in and make ago of it

it was midnight i wasnt really focusing on the poll lol sorry ill change it later

and itll be the game room, so plenty of time to stare at all the fishies but i call it the fish room because ill have a good few tanks and they'll all be in there most likely

I'd bring it up to six 20's, six 10's, and a second 55. With this you should be able to keep or breed a wide assortment of fish. Most guys I know with a fishroom either have it as part of or right next door to their "man cave".

Mine is just outside the family room, which rarely gets used by family, more often by buddies who stop by to hang out. One guy has a converted garage, recliners & a big screen, that's usually a Wednesday night hangout. Another has a large dining room table in his, that's where we go to play cards. A third has some wall tanks facing the family room, which includes a 1000 gallon pond, with the rest of the fishroom behind the built in tanks. A large refrigerator in close proximity to the area is a must, as is a TV.

Often a fishroom is more multipurpose than just fish, at least from what I've encountered. Serious fishkeepers are drawn to fishrooms, like a moth to a bright light. You must then have the proper non-aquatic equipment to make it comfortable.

well im only allowed to use the tanks i have and ill get moreif i really need it.

its either the game room upstairs or the theatre (yes theatre) in the basement near my room and a BIG tv with mini fridge lol

A concrete basement offers a stronger base for multiple tanks. The only real problems are keeping tanks heated in an area that is often cooler than the rest of the house, and a bit more work leveling stands as concrete floors below grade are usually pitched towards a floor drain. These are easy enough issues to work with, something many folks have dealt with successfully. An upper floor will limit the amount of tanks you can set up due to the weight.

TV & a fridge is part of a normal fishroom setup as far as I'm concerned.

I have 2 fish tanks in my bedroom, not really a fish room is it? But I don't want one, so I didn't know what to put!
I think your tank selection is good and I think it will be pretty cool for you!

well im using it for both reasons as id like to try breeding my rainbows (which just so happen to have laid eggs in my little statues intended for that purpose lol) and some salt water fish to:
help stop capture of them in the wild ie: bosemani rainbows and firefish
help fund my project: so far sw fish in the 200 are gonna cost 1000$ total just with the fish lol

im also having a 20 gallon to use as a coral propagatiion tank to simply grow and sell them, i want to eventually open a lfs later in life so this would be great practice running multiple tanks lol

I kind of have a fish room. It's actually part of the family room, . Whenever people come over they usually take on look at my twenty gallon, and say something along the lines of "THAT THING IS HUGE!"
Really? I never knew that?

I'm starting to consider blocking off my fish room after a friend of mine looked at the star trek posters that I had put up (and the picture of a bushy nose pleco that I had put on my tank to see if a bushy nose pleco would look good in my set-up) and screamed. I guess she's afraid original series and\or bushy nose plecs.

If people look at my fishtank and say it's huge, what do they say about that 200+ reef of your's, GAB99?
