Hi!

My current tank is my first one, and it's about 48 litres. I have had some whitespot and algae problems in the past, but now they have all been dealt with and now I am thinking of getting some new fish. Currently I only have:

2 Serpae Tetras
3 Cory Catfish

Should I get any more fish, or is this enough? If I should, are there any types I should avoid or that you reccomend? The Serpaes have a tendencey to nip fins, but the Corys are happy to get along with each other and anything else.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know, what do you think Andy? Taking both species up to minimal shoal level would probably overstock the tank. Its possible that with very good maintenance habits (meaning frequent high quality gravel-clean-water-changes) you could raise the corys to 5 and the Serpae to 4. I would not introduce another species (myself) as the Serpea tetras will show their aggression in that case I think.

I think waterdrops correct, at a push you'd be best upping the corys to 5 and serpaes to 4 and leaving it at that.

Any more and you will overstock the tank, which is likely to bring out the aggression in the serpaes.

Another option would be to rehome the 2 serpaes if you'd prefer and would give you better options. The serpae do tend to take up quite a bit of the stocking limits due to their fuller body structure as opposed to say neons that stay small and thin.

Thanks, guys. I think it might be a good idea to up the numbers of Serpaes if I'm gonna keep them, but it's a little dissapointing to learn that it's not a good idea to get anymore species. :( Ah well, if its the best thing for my fish, then I'll do it. Thanks again for all your helpful advice :)

I think if it were me I'd be tempted to remove the sepaes and replace with something small bodied aswell as perhaps adding a centerpiece.

Also what corys are they? Depending on which you have some are significantly smaller than others so if you have one of the smaller types that'd open up stocking possibilities.

The corys are one speckled, one bronze and one albino.
