Well I set up my Fluval Roma 125 a few weeks ago, I used artifically filtereed it with the bottled cyclers, as well as using some filter media that I have from another tank (It was cold water) and then after a week of it added 2 Angelfish, then a further week later I added 2 gouramis. One gourami got a fungus affection, and even though I treated the tank with protozin the fish died, and slowly the rest of the fish followed suite as an ammonia spike seemed to follow the fishes deaths and even with water changes nothign seemed to work, it was not a high point.
Well, today I drained my tank, removed everything and started from scratch. I added new gravel, the "marina" gravel, it is very bright and I like it, I then added some plants, including one that was like a plant on a piece of wood, i think, java moss? Sorry i've forgot the name... The plants are now embedded into my gravel and are looking particulary pretty, and my filter is now on as well as my heater, so that I can get everything running. Once again I have added the bottled bacteria, but this time I have not transferred over any filter media from the my other tank. My filter is also periodically pumping out bubbles, I am not actually sure why, but it is. I was thinking, is this beneficial? I mean, it's adding oxygen to the tank, but... It confuses me.
So, I was planning to go with the fish-cycle, so I was wondering what should be my starter fish. I like the idea now of having some fish that will shoal, or a selction of larger fish. However, I would really just like my final result to be quite bright and to look good swimming around. Previously I was planning on having a pair of angels, a pair of gouramis, a few plaites and a few mollies, however I am a bit weary of this idea now that my other tank went so wrong, so perhaps this time I should get something a bit more hardy. I absolutely adore the kissing gourami, but I am not sure what they would go with? I have a book that says they tend to not to be aggrssive to each other, but then as there kiss is a test of strength, is this true? I heard they go with angels too, but then I am also confused as to weather they'd snip their fins. So, is there any possiblity I could create a tank wish a kissing gourami? Or what reccomendations would you make for me.
Thank you, I hope this time I can get some beutiful healthy fish. (That is the last time I buy a fish from pets at home, anyway)
