Hi guys, first time ever on a fish forum, wish me luck. So I have a 29 gallon tank, planted and I am worried about several things. Most importantly, I think my tank has some bad fish combinations. I have two of the rainbow sharks (black, orange fins, catfish mouth) two zebra dano's and a fish I forgot the name of, but it is sleek and silver with a black dot in the middle and back eyes and the size of the sharks. I worry because all of the fish besides the danio's never get any food really. I have tried flakes, the sinking tablets things, I even just tried hard boiled cucumbers. Are they all justbtoo stressed to eat? My fish especially the sharks swim straight past the cucumber, like they don't even know it's there. Another thing, one of them was eating it fir maybe 3 seconds but then the other rainbow came on that side of the tank and he immediately swam away. Another thing is my ammonia levels have been at 0. I do a 30 percent water change evry week. This is ok right.

Hi there :)

It's grea that your ammonia is 0; keep testing and if you ever get a reading that's not 0, do a large water change. Did you cycle this tank at all? How long has it been set up?

You should re-home one of the sharks now really; they will live together as juveniles, but you never know when they're going to start fighting!

Fish need less food that you think, so try not to worry too much. If you really think they need something, overfeed just before you do your water change; that way they should get some food but anything left over, you'll be taking straight out rather than having it rot in your tank.

Any chance you could post some pics of these fish so we can identify them for you?

I had the tank cycle for about two weeks, and then I was forced to put one of the danio's in it because he was bullying another danio. But I have heard it's good to cycle your tank with some hardy fish. The first fishes I added were two dwarf gourami's. One of them died. I had the one gourami for about a month, and maybe 4 weeks ago I got the shark and the silver fish. And yes I know fish need little food, it's just in reality, the sharks haven't eatin any food for about a week and a half. The problem that I am getting is the sharks won't eat at all. Even the food at the bottom of the tank. The food sometimes floats right in front of their face.
I don't know how to post pictures sorry. So you think I should move one of the sharks out?

Yes, agree with Fluttermoth, you may have some stocking issues down the road and re-homing one of the red-tailed sharks will be an important beginning to changing things before the trouble arrives. Fluttermoth has lots of good experience with stocking and other issues, you're getting good advice.
