I have 10" x 17.5" x 10" Fresh water tank. It fully fish less cycle and I bring two kind of fish from LFS but I don't know the name of the fish. Kindly help me to know the name of fish. I am also putting image of my filter and gravel. Kindly also help me to tell that is it enough for my aquarium. I have 2 white fish and 3 Orange or yellow with some black dot.

Please help to tell that can i add more fish in it and which fish I can add. I most interested in betta fish.

They are red eye tetras and golden barbs. I think the red eye tetras will get too big for your tank in the long run they are quite a large tetra. So what I would do is swap them for more golden barbs because barbs are a schooling fish and need a minimum of 6 to feel really safe and happy.

The filter looks quite small what is the gallons per hour of it? It will say on the box or it might be rated in liters per hour thats the figure of how useful it is for your tank.

Hi wills,

Thanks for such fast reply. As I mentioned I bring fish yesterday only. So as u say I will try to go back to my LFS change my Red Eye Tetra and bring golden barbs but thing is that I read internet that golden barbs are very active so my 8 gallon will not enough any advice on that ??

I think they are "okay" but yeah I have to admit they are not the most ideal fish for the tank. Did you see any other fish you liked at the store maybe we could work out what you have available to you and which of those are suitable for your tank. Wills :)

Wills,

I show molly fish ,cleaning fish ,turtles, betta and blue garoumis. If you don't mind can you tell me why this golden barb is not ideal fish. Thanks in advance.

I said gold barbs are not ideal because they grow just on the border or being suited to a 10g and as you said they are quite an active fish most of the Asian schooling fish like barbs and danios are quite fast swimmers because of the fast water they live in in the wild so they usually need a long tank maybe at least 2.5 foot - 3 foot long tanks.

With the fish you saw only a few are suited to your tank I would avoid the cleaning fish as many of the fish sold under this name grow very large or agressive. Common plectomous are a fish known as cleaning fish and they grow to over 12 inches long or an other is the chinese sucking loach which get territorial and aggressive as they grow up.

I think that you tank would be a really nice home for a betta fish :) Or the other one that might be okay could be the molly fish, though I would stick to just females though as they are livebearers so you will have lots of babies in your tank with no home to go to.

OKay I will try to give them back all the fish try to bring 1 betta or some molly fish but how much I can bring ?? I mean how much in quantity

With Bettas you can only keep one male as they will fight to the death in the same tank. But there are smaller tank mates they can sometimes live with like small tetras or rasboras have a look in your fish store and see if they have any of these :)

With the Mollies I would try and maybe 3 females, but these can sometimes get to different sizes due to breeding quality. So your tank might be full with just them for now.

Agree with wills regarding the betta.

I wouldnt put any mollies in the tank, they quite often reach upto 4" in length and ideally prefer a brackish tank (small amount of salt added) which other fish do not like.

Personally I'd go with either:

1. A male betta and 4-6 pygmy corys.
2. A male betta and some shrimp
3. A male betta and 2-4 African Dwarf Frogs

I am thinking to go for 1 Female Betta, 6 Neon Tetra, 11 Red Cherry Shrimp and 1 Mystery Apple snail. Is it okay ???

I'd lower the shrimp to about 6 for the time being to ensure your filter can cope with the waste load produced in the tank, you can always add a few more in a few weeks / months.

A female betta would be fine, but personally I'd go with a male. Males are much more colourful than females and stand out as a centrepiece in the tank.

Neons prefer mature tanks at least 6 months old otherwise they tend to drop like flies. You could always add a betta, the shrimp and snail and add the neons in 6 months time.
