Hi

Really excited about my new tank delivery.

As you can see from other post on fish choice i've been researching for a couple of months and I've been buying equipment that I know I need.

On the question of meds, what would you suggest I purchase in advance as like a medicine cabinet in case of illnesses.

At the moment I've bought Interpet 6 (white spot) Interpet 7 (Slime and velvet) and Interpet 8 (Fungus and finrot)

What else should I get stocked up on or have I got the major/most common/likely illnesses covered?

I realise I might have to buy treatments for certain ailments as and when they arise but just like having our own medicine cabinets at home with essentials like paracetamol etc I thought I do a bit of pre planning

That covers most eventualities to be honest. The only others you might want to consider are Melafix and Pimafix. These are good all rounders that can be used together in extreme cases that treat a wide variety of problems. Hopefully with good water conditions and a fishless cycle + careful stocking you won't ever need them.

:good:

if you live near a petshop then don't bother buying medications until you need them. Many start to break down and only last a year or two. If you can keep them cool they last longer.

As mentioned by Jonesy, if you keep the water quality good and feed them a varied diet they shouldn't get sick. Most fish health issues are water quality related. If you keep the tank clean the fish should stay healthy. Also quarantining new fish before adding them to the tank is a good way to prevent diseases getting into the main display tank.

Best thing to keep on hand is a list of local shops, their hours, and a brief list of meds they carry.

There's nothing like clean fresh water, best preventative med there is!.
