100 litre tank started up two days ago. Dosed with 2.4ppm ammonia yesterday as per calculator instructions. Also squeezed the filter sponges from my juwel 190 into new filter. Readings this morning are ammonia 1.0 and nitrite 0. Added 1.7 ammonia to bring it upto 3.0 as per calculator instructions. Does this all sound like I am on the right track?

Sounds good, progress is being made quickly.

You can safely take a third of the media from an established filter without affecting the tank. If you were to put some seeded media from the old tank into the new your progress would be even quicker.

Your filter squeezings should give the new filter a nice start. I have found that I can consistently get a full cycle in about a week by using a new tank as a cleaning bucket for an established filter while the new tank's filter is running. It is a bit messy but the new filter can take over completely in a week which is my real desire. Your ammonia drop is encouraging but there is no need to top up the ammonia levels until ammonia readings drop to zero. As long as you still have an ammonia reading, your filter is not yet processing everything present so it is still making progress.
