I'll be setting up my 135 gallon soon, 72x18x24 and I'll be placing my large angel and clown loaches in there, I was wonder what else should I get ??

I am really looking into other peaceful chiclids but any ideas would be great
Tank will be well planted with real plants..
Thanks

I've never kept them... but I am working out opening up a spot for Green Severums... from everything I’ve read and heard they are very peaceful but at the same time can hold their own... Might be worth looking into

By the way... 6 foot 135 Gal... nice tank ;)

Thanks !!

I am looking forward to setting it up...but want to do it right..no rushing

I would like to see your 550 Gal.. :D

I have been looking into many peaceful chiclids but I want to hear from others before I begin..and remember they will be housed with a angel fish..might be a problem there :/

Go for Golden Severums - beautiful fish (check my avatar) - they can grow up to 12" and would look stunning in a large volume of water.
You could go for Firemouths - they mix well and are peaceful.

The pond is still being developed... it is completely built... liner in place... being filled as we speak... there is a thread regarding it (Oscar Pond...) in the New World Cichlids forum of this site... you can see some mid construction pics by clicking the link on my signature below...

and thanks for the interest :D

Gold severums would look awesome. If u r plannung on having a sand substrate Geos are awesome too.

Bala sharks are awesome, and If I had a big tank those would be my first choice. I also agree that Severums are great fish, they are so cool looking. They are shaped kinda like a silver dollar tetra. I would also get some Clown Loaches, as they are hilarious additions to any tank.

Seerums are great but if you're planning on having plants then say good bye to Mr Sev as they loove to eat plants

Maybe some keyholes and some Festivum?

I second the Balas, they mix well with angels and are very active additions to any community. They are hardy fish and do best when kept in a group of 4-6.

They do grow to a foot long eventually so keep that in mind. Plus they are jumpers, tight fitting lid is a must.

Sadly I do plan on having real plants, so I know that may limit my choices..

here is my idea I really want my tank to look like I went down to South America took a chuck of a lake/river and brought it home...plants/fish from the same region..

but you never know I could go with a mish-mash of things...

I just painted the stand and doing a test fill to look for leaks ( used tank )

I'll keep you posted on my findings and tank results.

:D

How many clown loaches do you have? Maybe you should get more!

If you have angels, i would get fish to complement that. What has been suggested so far tends not to complement the look of the tank. Sev's wont do great with angels, and bala sharks, well, whats the big deal about them! lol :)

I think you should get more large angels, and maybe discus or something that would go nicely with them.

I like the suggestion of Geos, they would go really nicely in the tank, especially if you have fine substrate or sand :)

Well I will have sand but it will be covered with gravel and stone...

I may just get some more Angels...I don't know if I want to try Discus I heard they are hard to keep

Not really into Bala Sharks :/

I want to keep it in the chiclid family ( if possible )

I of course am doing my own research but playing dumb hear to get some more good ideas for things for me to research...

This tank has to be perfect...so the more I know the better off I'll be in the long run and of course the Tank will look good to..

Thanks for all the help and keep it coming !!

:D

Another cichlid which is related to the angel is the festivum cichlid... peacful and very pretty :) I have 2 in my 57G tank.

Discus aren't as bad as people make out, i have learnt that from the fish shop that i started working in this week. The main thing is the water, if you can make sure that it is clean enough and you do enough water changes the fish can be very hardy.

Maybe you should stick to the cichlid/loach theme? They get on well and look good together.
