Hi guys,

I am on the verge of upgrading to a Fluval Vicenza 260 (External Filter).

Before i sign off on this idea I thought i might run it by you guys and see if i could grab any advice..

Firstly i have allowed myself a budget of between £500 - £600 for the tank so if there are any Tank&Cabinet (plus filter, heater etc) combo's that i might find better for my budget then please do let me know?

Also with regards to the fish i shall be keeping..

I am really wanting to go for some cichlids, and with the 260l litre tank size ambition i was hoping you might be able to provide me with some good combinations for a community for my tank.. and least for an idea... then i can make my own mistakes from there! :)

I always wanted an Oscar, but im no fool! I know i would need to be upgrading my lovely new tank within maybe less than a year! And also i dont want the restriction of not being able to buy some really nicely coloured Cichlids because i am worried about the Oscar having them for dinner!

So anyways, if there were any suggestions on the tank i have chosen or an alternative and also any community suggestions they would be very greatfully recieved!

Thanks guys!

Danny

What about a Snakeskin Gourami, they have behaviour really similar to Oscars. And they look similar. Snakeskin Gouramis are great fish...

I think a couple of Jack Dempseys would be great in a tank that size. They are really peculiar fish and have an attitude all their own. They are fun to sit and watch. Plus they have enough aggression that if you wanted to have some fun with them you could.

Which cichlid path do you wish to go down? South/Central American or African?

there are sub-forums for each where members will be able to help you stock the tank either way. It is strongly advised that you don't mix cichlids from the two continents though.

You could do a Malawi cichlid setup, or JDs as mentioned would be nice. Convicts are comparably easy cichlids to breed so are good fun although are agressive to other fish if they do so :)
