I went to feed my fish tonight some frozen food, now this creepy critter came out of either.. Krill pacifica, brine shrimp in garlic, or bloodworm, I am discounting bloodworm due to the fact there is no red staining on it. AA battery for size comparison.

First thoughts were a candiru - but if its out of the krill or brine shrimp this would not be possible.

Could it be a lancelet? They used to be commonly used for fish food, although I personally haven't seen it around (or mentioned, come to that!) for a good many years.

Just googled lancelet, they dont have big eyes like this one does, its definately some sort of fish, the photo doesnt show it too well but it has a skeleton and tail.

I cant try and get any more pics as I have binned it, it started to smell :(

No idea then, I'm afraid; never seen anything quite like it, and it could be the young of something that looks entirely different! The large eyes do give it a rather juvenile appearance.

Some sort of juvi eel I think it was.

Almost looks like a very small polypterus but doesn't have enough of a skeleton or skull plates, and it's eyes would be red if it was naturally that red, they don't really lose much pigment after dying.

A young eel, perhaps?

The European Eel found in some of our UK freshwaters (apparently declining these days, caught them for fun by hand as a youngster in North Wales in the early '80s) goes through quite a life cycle, spending time in brackish estuaries and youngsters being born in the Sargasso Sea.
