Fish Hurt Our Olympic Chances

You guys may have heard about this, but one of our Olympic swimmers can't take part this year because she caught a nasty disease from her fish tank, a Granuloma infection. I read it in the Loughborough Echo yesterday (that's where she's from). She's a world record holder and was considered one of our good chances of a gold medal I think.

Apparently she's now going on a national campaign to raise awareness and make sure all fishkeepers wear gloves when carrying out tank maintenance. Is infection from fish tanks really that common?

Oh eck! Trouble is unless you can get gloves that go up to your shoulder, the water would just come down the tops of em LOL.

If i read that article correctly, she pricked her finger on something sharp in the filter. Even if she wore rubber gloves she would have still pricked her finger.

she cut her thumb while doing her cleaning -
so for all hobbyist - we must take extra care -

and ask someone to clean the tank for you if you have
open wound - make sure the one cleaning it doesn't have any as well-- LOL

Imagine if we miss out on being the top Olympic country by 1 Gold Medal, there will be outrage. Aquatics shops will be demolished, fishkeepers will be pelted with lava rock and mobs of disgruntled Olympians will burn Guppies in the street! Seriously though I don't think we have to worry about that scenario, not unless moaning about the weather, queuing and being scared to talk to strangers on buses are all new Olympic sports.
