I have a Dalmation Molly that has suddenly started swimming almost vertically (seeming to have a hard time keeping belly down). As long as it is at the top of the tank it seems to be able to keep its tail down but as soon as it starts to swim down towards the bottom of the tank its tail starts to raise up so the fish is vertical and it almost seems like it is going to turn belly up. The following is information about my tank.

Tank size: 20 gallon
pH: around 7.2
ammonia: around .25
nitrite: between .5 and 1.0
nitrate: around 20
kH: around 80
gH: around 75
tank temp: 78

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): stated above

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 10-20% biweekly

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: there is a carbon filter (hanging on side), air pump, some salt added to water for guppies and molly's, dechlorinator

Tank inhabitants: 2 neon tetra's, 2 guppies, 2 dalmation mollies, one red tailed black variatus, and 2 otocynclus (sp?)

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): added a live plant about 3 weeks ago

If she is floating it may be she has a problem with her swim bladder.

Swimm bladder can be treated by feeding peas; it helps get rid of air in the swim bladder :).

Fish use a swim bladder to regulate themselves in the water so they stay upright.
