Well, today was the big day -- trip to the lfs after waiting 30 days for my 55 gallon to cycle (fishless).

My plan was to start with the congo tetras -- but much to my dismay they only had a couple. :(

That's the bad news. BUT, the goods news is: There are more arriving on Tuesday afternoon. AND, on Wednesday, the fish are buy one, get one free!! So, I'll be returning to the lfs on Wednesday!!

Is there a disadvantage to buying fish shortly after they arrive at the lfs? (They will go from being shipped, to the lfs, to my tank -- all within a very short period of time - would they be better off spending a few days in the lfs tank?) Just curious why they offer such a great deal on Wednesdays.

They probably offer these great deals on wednesdays because nearly half of their imports will die within the first few days. A truely good fishshop will quaranteen the fish for 2 weeks for this reason. I really recommend waiting as long as possible before buying any of the stock to make sure you get the strongest ones.

Also, seeing as you only just finished cycling, make sure to not add too many fish at once! Its best to add them in groups of around 4, and leaving about 3 days to a week inbetween. By not doing so, the chances of you overloading your bioload are high meaning you might go through a mini-recycle. Which obviously is the last thing you want after spending so much time on fishless cycling

Well Seeing as there is nothing else in yur tank i think you could just add them stright to that because you could probly treat in that tank.
