I'm setting up a 6 UK gallon (27 Litres) tank for breeding snails. To make things more interesting for me, and healthier for any tank inhabitants it will be planted with Vallis and Ceratophyllum (Hornwort).
Does anyone know of a "minifish" species that could be kept in this tank without eating the snails? I was wondering about a really small microrasbora species, but then Can I keep a group happy in such a small tank? Any other fish suggestions are appreciated. I haven't set my mind on having fish in this tank, as I'm not going to put any in there if they aren't going to be happy.
My tank stats:
pH: 8
GHardness: 8 degrees from tap.
lighting:11watt T5 Compact 10 Hours per day
Temp: somewhere between 20C and 26C, can be adjusted depending on final fish choice
If I've left anything out let me know.
All the best from Bill.

I was thinking of the Ember tetra, Hyphessobrycon amandae, but then your pH is too high. Microrasbora species would be a good choice perhaps Microrasbora nana.

pseudomugil rainbowfish are also okay in a small tank, depends on your snail stocking though.

I'd assume you're going to have a ton of snails in the tank if you're breeding them which will take up the entire available biomass of the tank. So you're going to be stretching it putting in any fish.

Thanks for the help everyone. I saw some Rasbora maculata at the LFS and they seemed tiny. They've been in for several weeks according to the owner, so I was wondering about 5 or 6 of these? The guy at the shop seemed to think that with regular waterchanges I would do Okay. Does anyone think different? All advice appreciated.

All the best from Bill.
