Fish For A 55gallon?

I am looking at getting back into keeping fish. I grew up with them for years and now I am wanting a tank of my own.

I am considering a 46g Bow or a 55g Rectangle, not sure yet.

Anyways what are some good fish to keep in either of those options?

Some of my favorites are-
Neon Tetras
Cichlids (no idea what kind, just know i had them when I was younger, mainly Yellow and Blue ones)
Plecos
Chinese Algae Eaters
Corys

What are the plants called that have what look like bananas on them?
Does anyone know of any good online stores that purchase a tank from? Looking to get one a little cheaper than what they cost at the large petstores.

You'll need to decide whether you are wanting a cichlid tank or a general community tank because there are very few cichlids that can be put with normal tropical fish due to cichlids having an aggresive nature.

Ill probably go with a general community tank. Im looking for color and variety in my tank.

Neon Tetras cant go into a freshly cycled tank.

Neon Tetras need an established tank, one that has been running for 6+ months.

Freshly cycled tanks are prone to fluctuating water parameters, and Neon Tetras can't live in those conditions.

Have you looked into how you are going to cycle your tank?
