I was thinking at first of shelldwellers (multies or similis.) But I then found I problem that they would breed a lot.
Shame I can't have soft water dwarf cichlids.

Then I thought of:

1/2 Honey Gouramis
5/6 Harlequin Rasboras
4-6 Pygmy Corydoras

I'm not sure on any of these things, I'd like shell dwellers since I've never had cichlids other than angels, but I don't have enough room for tonnes of fry!

Any ideas/ help?

It is a pity your tank is not slightly larger otherwise you would be able to keep a pair of kribensis cichlids. They need however, a tank of at least 60 cm (around 15 to 18 gallons).

Provided that you have adequate filtration, your proposal is fine for that tank. For the honey gouramis, I suggest you keep either 1 male or 1 male with 2 females. Seen the size of your tank, I would stick to 1 male though.

Well My tank is 50cm long, my water is hard. I could probably just about scrape kribs but I've never seen them in shops.

Hmm, I'm not sure about having just 1 honey. I'll have a look for a replacement, perhaps.

My filter is internal and has 480lph, which is like 16x turnover / hour.

Do you think I could do

1 m 2 f Honeys
5 Harlequins
4 Pygmys

Otherwise I'd go

1 Honey or - Something else
6 Harlequins
6 Pygmys

Any ideas for a 'different' fish like a gourami.

Gouramis are territorial fish and do not mind to be on their own. I keep my dwarf currently with no other species of their own kind.

I suppose, my Pearl in my other tank is on her own, but I'm getting her another female and a male soon.

What about

1 Male Honey
6 Harlequins
6 Pygmys

Sounds good to me!

Yeah I might do that then, I was gonna do sand for the corys but how thick should it be, I don't know if I'm going to do rooted plants as I only have like 1.5 WPG. I was thinking putting sand on top of the gravel I already have but I don't know how good that will be.

Oh and I'll only get play sand.

I have even less than 1.5 WPG, and inert gravel as a substrate. I grow successfully amazon swords, vallisneria and cryptocoryne wendtii. To that I have added anubias. Another plant which grows well for me in low light is Ceratopteris thalictroides. If you have a good balance between light and fertilizers you can do a lot with 1.5 WPG. Root tabs and liquid fertilizers work very well if you have gravel or sand.
