My tigers have started to show a new behaviour - at increasing frequency they are doing a sort of flick / half turn to briefly brush against the sand / rock / plant. Two are head standing (see my other post) however there seems to be little information on why they might be doing this (anything from poor water quality - tested good - to mating behaviour). We're just getting stressed by this as we had a dead tiger yesterday...

Having a panicky look around there seems to be any number of possible causes for fish to be itchy - is there any procedure / checklist / things to look for to work out what it is before I start chucking chemicals at the tank in a random attempt to solve the issue? We can't see any white spots.

Just to complete the picture we have dwarf chain loaches and 2 Kribs (with 10 babies) in the tank...

Thanks

Miles

the flicking tends to mean some sort of irritation the only time i ever had this was years ago and it turned out to be white spot
what are your water reading post them as it may help others work out your problem..

Any chance of recently done a water change with overdosing of dechlorinator?

Did a 50% change using buckets and I suppose I might have ended up putting as much into all the buckets as I would for the whole tank (spread across all the buckets) but I guess that wouldn't be an overdose ...

Looking through various tables on the net could it be a fungal infection? Would possibly explain the head standing (swim bladder disease) as well as the itchy behaviour ... ?

mine are doing that and I have white spot I am treating in the tank. Though they arent showing it. I wondered if it was either the meds I am treating the white spot or the start of white spot. though some have been doing it for a week and not showed signs of white spot.
