I was away for a week, and during that time, I had the fish being fed measured amounts of food.

This is a stable, cycled tank.

While I was away, I lost 5 platy fry, an otto and today I lost an apparently healthy adult platy (I appear also to have lost an adult zebra loach as well :( )

I am really put out by it as it was perfectly stable beforehand.

However, I have noticed stringy poop, which suggests parasites?

I will be getting water tested today, but I don't think it's the params that are the issue.

Should I treat for parasites, or should I just do a "General Tonic"?

Thanks in advance

While the water stats might be interesting, I would just put some tank water to one side and do a massive (75-95%, higher the better) water change anyway after fish deaths.

Maybe the fish sitter decided your portions were too small, added more and then turned the tank into toxic soup?

Thanks for the reply. I did do a 50% PWC. I thought doing it too big could cause problems?

I tested the water and it is 100% fine - nothing that should cause fish deaths.

No, they didn't change my portion sizes. I trust them not to. And, seeing as the water params are fine, I guess that suggests that that is unlikely?

Turns out, the zebra loach I thought had died, hadn't. I found him this morning. He was lying on his side. I assumed he was dead, but being a loach, I thought maybe he was playing dead. He was still alive and darted away. I didn't think anything of it. Then, this afternoon, I checked the tank and there he was - dead. He had a big tummy, but I don't think that caused it as they are super greedy!

It is so frustrating! I just hope I don't lose any more!

I appear to have lost another adult platy today. At least, I cannot see her ANYWHERE :(
