Hello i have had my 63 L tank since christmas
all has been good up untill about 2 weeks ago.
first i had 2 class cat fish dye then few days later i had 1 elder guppy then the next day i had 1 red dragen guppy and a yellow guppy die
i have been checking all the levels every other day and amonia is at 0 nitite is 0 nitrate is 10 and PH 8 which it has been all the time so nothing has chged in the water.
I then brought some more Guppys, and mollys,
a few days later the guppys were dead also i had a bristlenose Plec right from the start and that also died few says later 1 of my 4 Danios which were the first fish i got died.
then today my big molly died.
i have check the water today and its fine all levels as they have been,

just seems strange so many have died so close together

any ideals

thanks
mark

Are the remaining fish behaving normally ?
Could the original fish that died have been exposed to ammonia or nitrite at any time ? The ill effects of intoxication can take a while to show

Hi thanks for Reply
The other fish are all normal the Big Molly that died today has been normal was this morning got home tonight and it was dead the other one i got at same time is ok.
Yes the original fish were exposed to Amonia and Nitrite but i still have 3 of the 4 danios which were my first fish, The other fish i got that have dyed i got after the levels had settled
down,
so may be the first Danios and Plec was because of the Amonia/Nitriate Levels but the newer ones cant be?

What type of testing kit are you using

Newly established filters can be temperamental, something as seemingly insignificant as a missed gravel vac or over feeding can cause a spike which by the time you next test the water has been cleared up by the filter

Most fish diseases have visible symptoms, sudden unexpected deaths are usually down to poor water quality at some time or other

Heater is fine thats first thing i looked at,
i use a Nutrafin test kit, one with the testtubes and bottles.
i have been keeping a diary since i started the tank of the levels last 3 weeks they havnt changed on the Amonia and Nitrite and Nitrate has only gone up or down by may be i colour not even that some times

Doh!!! i was thinking that but thought it was a coinsidence that they have died at same time and most are from diffrent shops

now my last red dragon guppy has lost its colour on its tail looks the (bones) of the tail is there but none of the colour it did have a huge tail last night.

im mistified now i even took a sample of water to 2 fish shops to triple check they said water was fine which agreed with my tests

Nothing you are doing sounds bad. I can't see anything wrong from the discussion. Have you increased the volume of your weekly gravel-clean-water-changes as symptoms have appeared. I probably would have been pushing my water change up to 80% hoping that whatever is bad in the water would pass on out. There are hundreds of things that can get in to water that we don't measure for but that don't hurt people so are not really cared about at the water authority level. Of course it could be something completely different but that's my only thought. Good luck with it and let us know your thoughts as it goes along. Sounds like enough mineral content that guppies should be ok...

i had been doing them twice a week since the first died last week
i done a water change last night will do another tonight and prob keep doing them each day now but when do i stop ?
should i do 80% each day ?

thanks

Lets get logical.

It is not your local fish store as you say they have been bought from diferent sources.

It is not heater related as you say the heater is ok.

I think it is time to do a down to 1" above substrate water change. This will rid the tank of any water born nasties.

btw, for a 63l tank you seem to be a bit overstocked, what was your originol stock before they started dying?

Tom

got home and the guppy was dead.

Thanks for reply tom
i will do that now
i had 3 small glasscat fish, 2 molys, 4 platys, bristle nose plec,4 guppys, 4 danios
they were all small bigest was the Danios about 2-3 cm long.

if it was over stocked wouldnt the Amonia/Nitrite go up is that right ?

thanks
