Hi, i have always wanted to go see fish in there natural habitat, as i'm getting near the big 40/21 again i have been toying with the idea of a once in a lifetime trip to the Amazon, been doing abit of googling and found a couple of fish collecting trips, Just wanted to to know if anyone here has been or gone to another place, i am also looking into the lake malawi tours as these seem abit more civilized and not roughing it so much, but i think my passion to see discus in the wild will win through over malawi in the end even if i do have to get in pirahna invested waters lol.
I would love to here from anyone who has done this to find out about their experiences
Thanks Angel

I have not, however I just wanted to tell you that swimming with piranhas isn't dangerous at all. They don't eat people unless they're decaying. Unless you have some decaying limb or something, you'll be fine. :D Even if you're bleeding, they won't attack. Although, I wouldn't go into any body of water with an open wound :X

I would also like to know if anyone has done one of these trips. I've only really seen one site that has these tours (Margarita Tours, I think?) and would like to know other feedback besides what they have on their site. :good:

Margarita tours is one i was looking at and amazon tours or dawn on amazon
they seem great,
i read that the freshwater rays are what the fishermen fear most when they are wading through the water and those tiny catfish that swim up your privates  not put off though. My biggest problem is i can't eat fish and on all the trips catfish and piranah are the main source of food that is my only gripe with it.

I think I have seen Dawn on the Amazon before, but Margarita Tours was the one that stood out to me. I was thinking about starting to save money to go next summer... so if you go, please tell me how it was! :hyper:

I've spoke to quite a few people who go on collecting trips regularly in the Honduras. They love them, but you won't see many discus there :D

Decaying Huh? I wonder what poo does to them because If I was in the water with them there would def be some ! lol

Thats not strictly true, there are a number of Piranah species that dont eat rotting, decaying flesh but eat the live scales and fins from other fish, this would mean there certainly would be a possibility of getting nips, then once bleeding there is also a possibility of attracting their large brothers.

havent done these tours but ive been to colombia 5 times and iam going again this april...you see soooo much :good:

Is it a trip just to see fish you go on or just a holiday and the fish were a bonus, and did you go to the Rio negro

that fish that swin in your privates isn't a catfish it's a mino, it is attracted to ammonia that's how they feed. they trace the ammonia to things like cat fish and enbed them self's in the gill and eat them, they stay there with backward facing barbs. so your be ok in the water from them as long as you don't pee in the water.

sounds like a good trip, hope you got a water proof camera and take load of pics
