So my Fluval Edge finally (after 80+ days) decided to cycle to as near completion as possible.
Water tested fine, 0.0ppm Ammonia & 0.00ppm Nitrite. Nitrate 40ppm, but that's my tap water for you.
So I added 5 neon tetras yesterday & a couple of crystal shrimp & they seem to be OK, but as most new aquarist's I'm concerned the fish are OK.
A couple of the neons are paler in colour, but seem to be feeding OK & schooling (most of the time) with the other 3 neons, who appear much brighter. They some times go off as a pair themselves from time to time and after reading up on Tetra illnesses/diseases I'm wondering if these 2 are ok.
I've been feeding them twice a day with Nutrafin Max flake, which I grind a bit first so the flakes are very small, which makes it easier for the Neons to eat. They go mental & whizz after the flakes & all of them appear to be feeding fine.
Currently the Neons are hovering in the same place, in 2 groups (3 & 2) but they all seem to be `panting` and their gills look a bit red. Now I might be over cautious & this panting might be normal & the gills may be normally a bit red, but I'm not 100% convinced they are ok.
Some reassurance on fellow neon owners would help lots.
The Shrimp are buggers to find & seem happy in themselves, the Neons aren't bothering them & they hide in all sorts of nooks & crannies in my tank. Even thought one was dead this morning as it was upside down near the opening on the Fluval Edge, but it was just taking in the view... or planning it's escape!
