I spent $85 on fish supplies today. Filter media, some food, breeders traps, betta housing, fertiliser for plants....la de dah. Add shipping onto that and I have spent $85!!! Just for basics (the place I ordered from are HEAPS cheaper than buying from stores, even after you add shipping).....And thats just basics.....just to keep my fish alive.

That and the fact that I spent $20 on fish today......4 albino cories  and a yellow platy :fun: I have been after a yellow platy for ages.....and she was the only one in a tank of mean red platies :( So I rescued her....well...thats my excuse anyways :p

And the cories, my peppered cats lost one of their mates leaving only 3....so now I have 4 cories who are all socialising well....so that was a necessary purchase too :p

LOL, in my opinion they are neccessary purchases of the hobby. I enjoy my fish too much not too skimp out or let price stand in the way! :p

who ever said fish keeping was cheap? no one

:p

Ah well... I have nothing to worry about since I only have one tiny tank, but I feel for you people who have massive tanks..

Fishkeeping's expensive, but worth it! :D

I spent £20 yesterday on a lightbulb and 6 'bronze cories' that I'm thinking aren't bronze at all, but undulatus.... Although I think undulatus aren't highly common....

It can be expensive, that's for sure. I am deffinately spending more on my fish now then when I first started. Now that I have real plants. I would rather spend the money on fish stuff, than all the shots and things that cats and dogs need.

Um, I got a little 8 gallon tank, and was thinking that my panda corys would be fine in a group of 3. Is this untrue?

Cheers, Xan -_-

i did actually!!

my son wanted a dog, then a goat, then pigs, you name it till i gave in on the NO PETS rule and suggested fish, as they'll always be indoors so you can see them, and they dont make as much mess, and they're loads cheaper!!!

pah! what a fool!! he still wants his dog tho but he's got shark and shrimp in our family tank so it aint gonna happen!

Actually it's not TO bad. Considering a good quality AKC registered dog could cost you $1,000

I'd rather have a fish than a puppy. :p My parents actually like me having fish rather than begging them for a puppy or a pig. I've always wanted a pig as they are my favorite animal, but we don't live in an area where we are allowed to keep pigs as pets...so I moved onto fish hehe. Don't ask how THAT happened lol. My parents said I can get as many fish as I want and as many tanks as I want, as long as I clean them and take care of them and as long as they don't have to go to the vet or poop or pee on the floor.

But I agree, fish are pretty expensive. When I worked at a LFS month ago, I spent every paycheck I got on fish and fish supplies. :hyper: I only got like 3 paychecks since I quit due to treating fish poorly. It was still around $600 :hyper:
