Hi All,

Ive acquired 8 baby platies which i am currently baby sitting in my 54 litre tank.

I am using tetra wafer mix. its amazing stuff and so little mess.

MY problem

If i was to get a couple of assasin snails, how can i make sure my fish get the food they need??

What i mean is that the wafers do sink after a while and when they are sat on the substrate,, would it be the case that the snails will see the food and basically slide over the flake and my fish will starve??

Im new to fish feeding so please dont laugh,,,

Thanks,

Dave

You will probably find your fish will eat it before it lands and if you have food left after a couple of minutes your over feeding and for the you may be best getting aqui fry food or grunding the food you have as small as you can while they are small

It won't be a problem. Platies will eat from the surface or substrate or anywhere in between and the snails won't get at it first. They spend most of the day buried and not moving.

Crush up the flake before you put it in and remember not to overfeed - baby platies need a tiny amount, no more than they can eat in two minutes, several times a day ideally but don't worry too much as fish can easily go for several days without food.

Assassin snails are no competition for the food. I have many in each of my tanks and have never had any kind of problem with them.

It is also the case that in an established tank there are all sorts of naturally occurring yummies for your fish to eat, as well as the food you feed them.
