First Time Owner.

I don't know if its ammonia burns on the gills, since quite frankly, this is my first time owning a Betta. It's slightly red, you can't really tell for sure.

well keep an eye on it, and if it gets redder then it is the ammonia burning.

If you want to your betta to live i can't stress how important it is to get the de-chlorinator asap, so that you can do a decent water change to bring down the ammonia levels, and then a liquid test kit to keep track of the levels.

I also noticed i just did a 100% change, and the water was extremely warm. I made sure it was 80 degrees the first time, but I have the light that goes on all night must have warmed up the water significantly. Would that affect the redness too?

bubblenests are a good sign, good job, bettas are quite easy to care for, if you do the few things they need, properly.

de chlorinator is one, the soonest you get can it, the better, because our tap water has all sorts of minerals and bad stuff in it, so the de chlorinator cleans them out.

A couple things you may like to have on handin 'just in case' situations are Melafix (heals minor stuff, like fin rot, etc., aquarium salt , and Pimafix, which is a medicationf or fungal infections

If you grab those things from your store, then you won't have to worry about when you need them

You might not want to keep the light on all night, they sleep too and need the dark to sleep as well :D

Yeap, the tanks so colorful when my rooms dark and the tanks on it looks georigous! But thanks a lot i'll stop by the store tonight. Lets say he gets finrot and and fungul infection what do you do? Sprinkle it in the water just like food? Also how does the dechlorinator work aswell?

the melafix and prima fix are liquid, you follow the directions on the bottles, i have pimafix here with me it says:

:shake well before each use. For best result, remove activated carbon during treatment. Treatment: Add 1 tsp. for every 10 US Gallons of aquairum water. Repeat dose daily for 7 days. After 7 days make a 25% water change. Treatment may be continued, if necessary."

It's very simple! Melafix is pretty much the same instructions and these medications work very very well. If he gets other diseases, post in the betta section or fish emergencies and people here will help you out

Most of those answers should be actually on the products. I'm not sure about the medication exactly, but the de-chlorinator is very easy, you just pour a certain amount of the de-chlorinator in a set amount of water. It varies from product to product, but the one i have is 5ml to every 10 litres of waterand I.Michelle, i'm not trying to cause an argument, and i realise you've been here a lot longer than i have, but just because it is making a bubble nest, it doesn't mean it is perfectly healthy, it is often the case, but not always

Should I take the fish out when I apply the de-chlorinator/primafix/melafix?

Sorry can't help you on the medicine, i've never had to use any (touch wood) so i'm not sure, i'd guess that it'd be fine to put in while the fish is still in there though.

With the dechlorinator, what i do is just pour the water i need into a seprate container, put it in there, and then pour that water into the tank, therefore i don't have to stress the fish out too much by moving it. Unless of course it's a big water change i'm doing i.e.80%+ then obviously you will have to move the fish out of the tank, whilst you are changing the water,a nd if that is the case you can just pour the de-chlorinator straight into the tank along with the fresh water.

You can put the Melafix into the tank without removing your Betta. Only use half the recommended dose as they are quite sensitive.
I strongly recommend getting a heater as you can't trust the temperature to remain stable all the time.
