not for the plants you have now, the only one that will struggle is the carolinian cabomba (fluffly plant), wih low light, it can be a very messy plant. If you stick to the ones i listed above, then your light will be ok. a nice planted tank can be achieved with a low tech tank. Here is George Farmers, 1.3WPG, no ferts or CO2

wow now that is one good looking tank, the cabomba is quite messy although its growning well, some of the Egeria Densa has more than doubled in size since i got it, will see if i can get hold of any of the plants you suggested.

Thanks

I am glad to say got a piece of bog wood today so the ship has left the tank!
So heres a pic of how it looks now:

There are tons of tanks here that have similar make-ups. Naughty boy. :p

I agree, the cabomba will struggle. It is a messy plant too. Marsilea hirsuta is also a good low-light ground cover. At least for me.

sorry

i was just showing a great example that i could find straight away rather than searching for, for 10mins ;)

well i gave up on finding it on here (7mins later), so i will just use the image link - courtesy of George Farmer:

As long as you don't link to the forum, that should be ok. By the way, the imaging is working, I can see George's tank in all of it's glory.

Poopy, though, I feel slighted. Isn't low-light, no-fert, no CO2 what I do? Or do I not make the cut? :-(

doesnt work on my computer?

which of your tanks is low tech?

Could be your browser. It's working on mine, but as long as it's working for lilfishie, you're point was well-made. It is a stunning tank. One of my favorites from George.

Right now, all of my current setups are low-light/low-tech. In the past, I've used CO2 on some of them, especially in their initial setup, but once the tank matures, I usually abandon the CO2. It's not especially needed once the tanks become stable, especially at my light levels. :) I just don't use soil because I tend to be allergic to most of it, so I have to use inert substrates with supplementation. The irony is that I'm an avid gardener, but I have to wear heavy gloves and Florida soil is mostly sand, which makes the reaction less severe. The 10g breeder that I setting up will be the only one with CO2, and that's only to drive down the pH and hardness for breeding.

You know I'm only kidding right? I don't feel slighted, I'm just playing with you. ;)

i know, its just that i looked on the 1st page of all your set ups in your sig and they all had the nutrafin CO2 - not as low tech as George's IMO ;)

You gotta read the whole journal. No wonder. Or for a summary, two are in the Member's Planted tank sticky (the 20g and the 8g). Then you won't have to look at a million posts. Remember, most of my setups are either over two years old or getting there, so there are some changes over the course of two years, and the 36g isn't in my bedroom, so most of the time I forget to change the stupid canister. I think it's been about 2 months currently since I changed it last.

Let's do it this way, since I'm on my lunch break anyway.

20g. At the time of this entry, a year ago, I was using CO2, but I have reduced the lighting and no longer inject.

8g I took out the CO2 in November of 06. The scape below was done without CO2.

i can see this pics and there some really great looking tanks on here, think it was one of George Farmers that inspired me into giving plants a try, and i'm glad i did, have always admired everyones planted tanks and now i have my own :D

changed the layout slightly, have split some of the Cabomba up as it is growing well.
Yesterday before trimming etc: some of the plants had floated

Today: none floating although it looks like there is, the Egeria Densa is getting very long

Quick question: as the Egeria Densa and Cabomba are getting very long do i just cut the tops off? and can they then be planted?

As with any stem plant, if you cut off of the top, it will produce sideshoots and bush out, if you uproot it and cut off the bottom, it will grow upwards.

Plants are looking good.

EDIT: It can be replanted, eachs tem must be at least 4cm long.
