Hi. I've had my tank up and running now for about a month and so far, so good. The more I see pictures of planted tanks, the more I want one! They look SO much better that the couple of fake plants I have.

I've got a pretty small setup (24" x 12" x 12" tank) and have an 18watt lamp. It's a small community tank with zebra, guppies, neons etc.

Can anyone advise me on what makes a good starters plant? I guess I'd be looking for low maintenance initially.

P.S. - I read the pinned article on java moss and think it looks awesome!

Ambulia, Hygrophilla polysperma and other hygrophilla species, Elodia & Vallis.

Get some liquid iron plant fertiliser and they will do much better. I use Sera Florena.

Have your light on for about 12 hours per day. If you don't get much algae then increase the lighting period by an hour or two.
If you get lots of algae then decrease the photoperiod.
