First Attempt At Breeding

Yah!! I'm so glad your wrigglers made an appearance!! :D I knew they'd be ok! Have fun watching them, those magnifying glasses really help! :p

Good luck!

A quick update this morning (sorry if I start to get boring) i've had a peek in the little floating plastic pots & there are lots of tiny fry in them :good: They are so teeny, just buggie eyes & a tail. Lots seemed pretty active & others are hanging from the bubble wrap.

The bottom of the tank its self is a mess, covered with furry white eggs which i'd love to remove, but I think its best I leave it all alone for a couple more days.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for the little fellas

Yay......I'm so glad you got some to hatch in the tubs. Using that method is always a bit hit and miss but you've obviously been very lucky. Keep them in the tubs until they are free swimming (but don't feed in there) and then they can be put back into the main tank with the others.

They do look all eyes at this stage lol and are so cute to watch :good:

I'm so glad you have a bunch of them that survived! Good luck moving them back into their grow out tank! ;)

I'm here to add a quick early morning update of our spawn.

Had a look in the tank an hour ago & was very surpised to see a little pair of buggy eyes swim right past, then another, & another, looked in the pots & there are a mix of free swimmers & those with their egg sacks still attached.

Should I feed them today do you think, I will clean the bottom of the tank just a little to get the fungus covered eggs out, then add the fry from the tubs & a little infusura using the dropper.

I have banana worms nearly ready & some baby brine shrimp to get going, this is my first time using home grown live foods, so its going to be a bit of a steep learning curve.

I feel a bit nervous cause nature has taken care of it all upto this point, now if anything goes wrong, I guess its down to me.

Can I ask an airpump question from anyone who understands how they work, I brought one,but havent used it yet, it has a length of hose & an airstone, how do I set it to only let off a bubble a minute, when I switch it on it just wooshes through like a curtain of bubbles.

You can buy airline clamps which you can adjust, so you control the airflow, or if you can't get one of those i used to just fold the airline over until the flow was right and elastic band the airline in place. Congrats on the lil swimmers, can't wait for some pics of them growing up x

I must admit to being totally addicted to my little breeding tank, i'm spending far too much time sitting & watching them instead of doing boring things like ironing & washing up lol

I managed to get a piccie of a fry, its an awful pic but you can make out the little one in the top right just below the waters surface, you can see a few others on the bottom & there are a few on the moss ball at front, but my phone camera cant pick them all up.

That's great news.....glad to hear they are doing well :good: I would hold off feeding until tomorrow morning but you could go ahead and suck up the fuzzy eggs from the bottom for now.

They are very addictive to watch....you'll soon have a nice big crease across your nose from having it pushed up against the tank

Thank you, I havent fed them yet, but have had a go at getting all the fuzzies up off the bottom, the brineshrimp should be ready tomorrow so I will start with those.

The best thing I think about feeding bbs is that you can tell really easily whether they have been eating it or not. They end up with fat little pink bellys. You really can't miss it and it gives a good indication of who is and who isn't eating. Some will manage it at this age and others will struggle. You can see them darting at the bbs a few times before they actually get it in their mouths lol

Congratulations on free swimmers!! :D Also, if you have some little ones that aren't getting the BBS then you could try a tiny bit of boiled egg yolk. And with your bare bottom tank it would be easy to clean up the extra. It worked for me so you might have some luck with that in case all else fails.

Good luck and keep us updated with pictures!!

Just a little update from me this morning, its one week since Darcy & Elizabeth spawned, i'm a little sad cause lots of the little guys didnt make it, but I think we have about 12-15 healthy little fry for now, they have been feeding on bbs & this morning have had a little bit of banana worm, they are feeding which i'm really pleased at, I sit there with my magnifying glass checking out their tiny tummies lol.

No piccies i'm afraid, I cant get anything decent at the moment, they are too tiny still.

Glad to hear u've got some healthy survivors, i know how frustrating it is when you lose fry, i lost quite a few. Well done for getting them this far though, they are amazing to watch x

Always sad to lose any but it's quite common and why they have so many to start with. You've still got a good number to keep you busy and will give you good experience for when you get a bigger spawn!!!!

Each spawn you do you'll eventually try different things until you find what works best :good:

congrats and the wrigglers :)

It's a bit sad when you loose a couple but it gives the stonger ones more room to grow :)
