Hey, well these are the only fish in the new tank at the moment, one pair of cobalt blue dwarf gouramis.

I didnt really want any fish in at this point in time, as the planting and aquascaping isn't done. But, they were a gift and the tank was fully cycled etc.

They are great fish, despite some inhouse agression.

They have been in the tank for nearly 2 days, yet the male has already started building his bubble nest! :hey:

Comments welcome

Nice, neat, simple and clean looking little set-up there so far, good luck with the dwarf gouramis, they are lovely fish when they actually work out. Longest I've ever been able to keep one alive was maybe 4 months :(.

good luck with the dwarf gouramis. My favorite are the blue ones. I had two at one time but they were constantly fighting over the territory. One died. The other one is doing just fine. I have been told and have read that they are territorial and like to be in the tank alone for domination purposes. Alone as in no others of there same kind. Mine is in with guppys, platys, and mollies and he's not aggressive with them at all. Only others of his kind.

Hope it works out for you.

Thanks for all of the comments guys, all information is helpful!

As I said, the male is constructing a bubble nest, and the female has developed gold vertical stripes, indicating they will start breeding. He's been building the nest for two days now. Should I be doing anything to help this process, I'm not too bothered about breeding at this time, but I feel it would be cruel to neglect it.

Theres not too much agression betwean them, the male just chases her every now and then. But then, the tank is sparse at the moment so there isn't that much territory to fight over.

I will be adding a rock structure / piece of bogwood to provide cover and decoration.

These guys have been in the tank only 2 days, and have already been breeding. I have eggs already! but the male is rubbish at moving them around, he either eats them or doesnt see them floating away.

I just added a Panda cory today, he is tiny! Around 25mm long. Will hopefully add a few more as I heard they do better in groups, better still, the Gouramis don't even notice him!

Pics up later

Try get a background, maybe plain blue or black one :) Will bring the colours out more and look nice.

Congrats on the eggs.

What size is the tank?

A few more plants and maybe a piece of mopani wood on the side where the filter is and it'll look complete.

Are you using live or fake plants?

Yep, I'm going for a black Background.

The tank is 24" x 9" x 8" , just short of 30l. I am only using it as a step back into the hobby, since I've been out of it for years. It only cost me £10 from a local breeder.

I'm using live plants, more plants to come. I'm unsure whether to have a large rock structure or a piece of bog/mopani wood as a focal point.

Once this tank has established and I have it how I want it, I'll look into a larger tank for the living room ( this one's in my bedroom! :D )

What a charming tank! :)
I've had Dwarf Guoramis live well over 2 years!
Good luck with yours! :good:
