I recently acquired 2 firemouths, i thought they were male and a female, but it turned out the "female" had damaged fins, they have now grown back and i now believe it is a male.
So i was thinking, if i go to my lsf tomorrow and buy a new female and wait to pair up with a male. Then return the lonely male to the shop.
Would this create any problems?

can get photos if you want any.
Thanks

I can't help you out with the Firemouths question, but if the tank in the sig is yours......it's very nice indeed!

I was also thinking of getting a plain blue background, to conceal the pipes?
Think it would improve the image of the tank :D

SHould be OK. If all those fish would be in the 125 litre in your sig, with all those fish, then that is quite a lot of fish.
Adding cichlids is always a bit of pot luck. However, if there is enough space and hiding places then your plan should work.

Lovely tank and I think a firemouth pair would be okay in that size tank, I have a pair of breeding Honduran red points in a 125 and they're fine. The only thing that might have to give is other stock that get's in the way of a breeding pair in the long term!

I'd go with a black or dark grey background in your tank, the plants and sand would really really stand out!

Agree on both parts. Both parts being a pair of firemouths and getting a black background for your tank. the black would really compliment the scape.

Thanks for the advice guys, will hopefully get to the LFS next weekend, went today had no female fire mouths in :S

Where are you located? I've been to many LFS in and around Coventry in the last week, even venturing to the out skirts of South Eastern Birmingham and i've seen firemouths in pretty much all of them. Obviously if you arent local to these it could prove hard :)

Im near Coventry funny as it seems, only went to one lsf, Prestwood. You may know it? they had firemouths but all were male.

Your in Coventry, i so happen to be in Coventry also :p Oh then in that case you have loads of places that have firemouths in locally! I could real off a list as long as my arm that had them thursday this week just gone by.

MA in Shirley
Shirley Aquatics in Shirley
A5 Aquatics on the A5 near Nuneaton
MA in Earlswood near Solihull

There are two MA's in the oposite direction toward Northampton also that are more than likely to have them in currently, although i havnt been down there for a little over a month so can't guarentee.

There a good start point if you want firemouths. All those places had them in thursday just gone as i mentioned ;) And no i havnt heard of Prestwood. Where is it exactly?

Its west Birmingham on the A449
See This
Its a nice place, I have been to Shirley aquatics, and not had a very good experience there. :S
