Firemouth That Doesn't Hide In A Cave

My Firemouth is forever swimming mid-level with the rainbows. They are not schooling, that's for sure, but he's not claiming any territory or taken up resident in one of my "caves". Do you think he's claimed the whole tank? I have had it for about 3 weeks, but stayed in another tank for the second week, when he was chasing the smaller FM which has since returned to the shop. He's about 2.5-3", same size as my boesemani. He's not chasing anything at the moment. I'm planning of stocking the tank (see my numerous threads). Thanks.
